This is going to sound counter intuitive coming from someone running a business that offers 3D scanning as a service, but you don’t need to use scanning for every project you work on. You need to think about scanning in the same way as all other services you may use during a project. It is a tool to do a job. Like all tools, it is better utilized in some instances than others.
The questions I ask myself when working out if I should use scanning are these; Continue reading “Should You Use 3D Scanning on Your Project?”
I know it looks great and all but please for the love of all things good and pure stop getting your whole facility remodelled off 3D scan data! I know this sounds counter intuitive coming from someone who provides 3D scanning as a service, but we also do 3D modelling and drafting. Wait a minute, that makes it sound worse, not better. So join me on a little journey while I explain why it is a bad idea to get your whole facility remodelled off scan data not to mention a complete waste of money.
It’s time to dish out some hard truths and reality checks about 3D modelling and scan data so strap yourself in, this ride might get a little rough for some.

So last week I posted an article about how “I wanted to break up with Autodesk” over their recent proposed licensing and software delivery changes.
Since then I have been trying to work out the reality of what this change means for my business, my business model, how I am going to handle that change and what that ultimately means to my clients. (do I hand the cost of this change over to them?)

I know we have only been in a direct committed relationship for the last 4 years, so it probably doesn’t mean much to you. However I was working for other companies that were in committed relationships with you for about 6 or 7 years prior to that. So really we have been in the same circle of friends for at least 10 years. Even when Continue reading “Autodesk, I think we need to talk…”
I recently published a post on the top 10 questions I get asked when talking to people about 3D laser scanning. I was going to include this as a bonus question, but it is really worthy of a post of its own as it isn’t really a straight forward answer.
One of the big questions I get asked a lot is this; Continue reading “Why you should be using 3D laser scanning on your projects.”
As a drafter for a number of years now, this is a question I get asked quite a lot. The simplest answer to this is; “the one that suits your needs the best”. However when I say this, it is often mistaken as Continue reading “What is the “Best” drafting program to use?”
