Should You Use 3D Scanning on Your Project?

Processing Plant Scan

This is going to sound counter intuitive coming from someone running a business that offers 3D scanning as a service, but you don’t need to use scanning for every project you work on. You need to think about scanning in the same way as all other services you may use during a project. It is a tool to do a job. Like all tools, it is better utilized in some instances than others.

The questions I ask myself when working out if I should use scanning are these; Continue reading “Should You Use 3D Scanning on Your Project?”

Autodesk Share Holders You Are Being Lied To!

So last week I posted an article about how “I wanted to break up with Autodesk” over their recent proposed licensing and software delivery changes.

Since then I have been trying to work out the reality of what this change means for my business, my business model, how I am going to handle that change and what that ultimately means to my clients. (do I hand the cost of this change over to them?)

There are quite a few things that have been bugging me though and tonight while trying to write another article about this change and reading more about it, it finally hit me, the biggest thing that has been bothering me that I just couldn’t put my finger on. As a provider of Terrestrial Scanning Services (3D Laser Scanning using a stationary land based scanner) I will say now Continue reading “3D Laser Scanning – What you should be expecting from your provider.”

Point Cloud Questions

3D laser scanning is a technology that has been around for about 15 years or so in a commercial sense. It is an industry that has seen a great deal of growth in the last 5 years due to the introduction of “high definition” scanners that can take up to 1 million points per second, and the recent software race to be the best in the market at using this high quality data. It is a market that is seeing huge growth overseas, but there seems to be a bit of hesitation in the local Australian market.

As someone who has had to do site measurements of some kind nearly my entire working life, i have kept a bit of an eye on this technology as i could immediately see the benefit in both time and cost saving from the very first time i laid eyes on it. Given that I was fortunate enough to be in a position to invest in a scanner for my business just recently i couldn’t resist the urge. However shortly after my huge investment of Continue reading “10 Most Asked Questions About 3D Laser Scanning”
